And The Winner Is...

So the limerick contest is coming to an end today, and last night I was reading through all the entries trying to pick one from the thousands (okay, maybe not thousands) that were submitted. And there were some good ones, too. Some, unfortunately can't be published here (thank you Eddie). Some were about me personally and not the Fest so I had to disqualify those.

I had just about decided on one, a very good one too. And then, beginning just around 10:00 PM, comes an April storm.

April sent no fewer than seven limericks in the space of an hour. I was floored. I was stunned. Shock and Awe. Any of the six (okay, all but one or two, maybe) could have won. But here's my favorite and our winner:

There once was a town in the middle,
Where you could hear bodhran and fiddle.
The Crown Center hosts
The Fest with the most.
And we'll drink 'til we all must go piddle.

I'd like to see Bill Shakespeare do better. April wins our prize, a pair of free Irish Fest tickets and a Gaelic Storm CD. And just for the sheer volume of late night poetic genius April hurled at me, I'm throwing in a KC Irish Fest ball cap as well.

Thanks to all who entered. You're all geniuses of the first order.

Oh my.

THAT actually won? Other than my ode to the first fest (never try to rhyme 'rain' and 'money down the drain') I thought it was the worst!

Then again, you should just be grateful I 'kept it sort of clean' cause there were other words to rhyme with middle and fiddle..... ;)

This made my morning! I'm a (sort of)poet!

I have to talk to a local Kiwanis group at noon. Maybe I should write some limericks into my talk? Or maybe not!!

Thanks for choosing mione of my entries!

There once was a rhyme competition

My effort of last, did not make it past.

Ah shag it I'll still pay the admission !!

Write a limerick you can read to your mothers
And thousands responded with covers
So pick one he did
First place it sure bid
But how about sharing some others?
