Musical Updates, Part One

Remember last week when I asked you to share your favorite musical performance from a Kansas City Irish Fest (or Brookside or Westport Fest) from the past? I mentioned in the post the performance of Amanda Kapousouz on the Atrium Stage 2 years ago. And if you read the comments, you saw Brett Gibson point to the after hours session that saw Amanda and the great Eileen Ivers trading fiddles and tunes side by side in our staff suite at the Hyatt. I think it was about 3:00 AM. Brett and I were talking about that very scene this past Friday night and (I hope you don't mind the quote, Brettski) he said that "Amanda is the next Eileen Ivers." High praise from one of the best trad players on any instrument that you're likely to hear.

Well, I'm thrilled to announce that Amanda will be returning to KCIF this September to create even more memorable music. If you haven't seen her before, make sure you do this year. You won't find a more skilled, energetic, entertaining or delightful performer anywhere.

One last note about Amanda. After our wallet-busting rain-out year, we held a fund raising show in November at Kansas City's Drexel Hall. We had asked lot of our great, generous local friends like The Elders and Shenanigans to play that show for no pay and they'd all agreed without hesitation. As we were planning the show, on a lark I called Amanda at her home in Athens, Georgia and half jokingly asked if she wouldn't mind coming up at her own expense here and playing the show. Oh, yeah and guess what? You'll be staying in my Mom's guest room and we can't pay you anything because we're broke!

If you were here and saw her play, you know the rest of that story.

One of our all time favorites, The Tin Cup Prophette back at Irish Fest for 2006.
