"For the great Gaels of Ireland
Are the men that God made mad
For all their wars are merry
And all their songs are sad."
-Gilbert Keith Chesterton, The Ballad of the White Horse
Want to sing some of those sad laments yourself? Or perhaps prove that old stereotype dead wrong with a happy Irish ditty?
There's a group of folks in Kansas City who get together to do just that, and you're invited to join them. It's simple, amateur, group singing of Irish and Irish-American songs, all ages welcome. No meetings, memberships or dues. And since they invited me, apparently no talent is required either. Copies of music and lyrics are provided. The sing-song location and dates vary from month to month, but I can tell you that the next one will be:
Monday, April 24, 2006
7:00 pm, 37th & Roanoke area, KCMO
Call ahead to Mason for exact directions at 913-515-1179.
Who knows? This could lead to you on stage at Irish Fest some day.
