Essay Grand Prize Winner Announced

The Grand Prize Winner of the Children's Irish Heritage Essay Contest is:

Ian Reid

Ian is 10 years old and attends St. Patrick's Catholic school in Kansas City, MO. His very proud Mom and Dad are Eric and Wendy Reid.

Ian became a Pen Pal at the Irish Festival last year to Karl Chambers in Dublin.
The boys have exchanged Christmas and birthday gifts. Through the Pen Pal program the boys have learned a lot about each other, family, school, friends and sports. At first when they met this summer they were shy. It did not take long and they were playing catch in the grass with the base ball and glove that Ian gave Karl for his birthday. This has been an excellent way for Ian to understand his Irish heritage and the differences of his life in the US to what he might have had if our families had never immigrated.

Karl Chambers attends Sacred Heart School in Dublin. He has a brother and a
sister, and a dog named Chelsea, and he loves Gaelic Football.

More Essay Winners will be announced as soon as they are notified.
