High Crosses, or Celtic Crosses, as they are also known, are found throughout Ireland on old monastic sites. These High Crosses are, along with the Book of Kells and the Book of Durrow, Irelands biggest contribution to Western European Art of the middle ages.Peter Martin, he of the Pub Front from last year, has been busy again this year. Here is a picture of the majestic 12-foot cross just a couple of days ago before being transformed by Peter. In his own words Peter describes this new feature of the Irish Fest:
It is a mix of inspirations. I wanted it to have the feel of an old world celtic cross with a hearty mid-western feel. The knot design and the stone color will hopefully make it seem like it's been in the Kansas City area for a hundred years or so. As if it were by the sons or grandsons of Irish immigrants.

Handy Irish Phrase: Bhfuilimíd in achmhainn troscán gáirdín nua a fháil i mbliana? (Can we afford to get new garden furniture this year?)
