Limerick Winner!

Forgive me. What with me poor brain being in vacation mode and all, I forgot before I left to post the winner of this year's limerick contest, as judged solely by my brother Patrick J. Regan, The Genuine Published Author™. His pick for the prize, comes from April, who as I recall also took home the gold last year. This girl has a bright future in the highly paid limerick industry. She wins a 2006, can't-be-bought, never worn, official KCIF Staff T-shirt and a very cool 2006 Kansas City Irish Fest poster signed by all, or at least most of our bands.

Ladies and gentlemen, our winner:

There once was a fellow with class
Admiring a sweet Irish lass
He asked her to dance
And she said “no chance”
‘Cause they were at Irish Fest Mass

Says our esteemed judge: "Awarded mostly because of her admirable restraint. I woulda gone with 'ass.'" Oh, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard Patrick say that.

Well done to all our poets, and thanks to Judge Patrick who stalwardly waded through all the entries. I owe you a beer, bro.

April, send me your address and I'll get your prizes out to you. Congratulations!

  1. Whoohoo! Thanks!

I did think that one was MUCH classier than last year's winner that used the word "piddle."

That last night of the contest, I was still trying to rhyme when I went to sleep.

"there once was a girl counting sheep, and into her head, rhymes did creep...."

or this complete one that I wrote mere minutes after the contest deadline

"there once was a poem to explain
to rhyme words was quite a strain
    cause allergy meds
    aren’t good for your head
and limericks can be such a pain"

Thanks Judge Patrick for choosing my limerick!

How many days til Irish Fest???
